Gina is a local artist specialising in engraved prints, inspired by her local environment in the south west of England. She has been making original designs and artwork for over 15 years and has gained a BA(Hons) at Winchester School of Art.
Each piece of work is hand printed, using traditional techniques, a very labour intensive process. Firstly sketches are made, once she is happy with the artwork she then transfers this onto an engraving sheet or a wood block and then the engraving begins. Once the engraving stage is complete a proof is taken to determine if any further amendments are required. If all is fine she begins editioning, these are limited so you are buying something unique and special. Quality is of the utmost importance.
Ella first stumbled across Indian block printed quilts and quillows years ago via a friend. She began helping sell them after falling head over heels for the colours and block printed designs. After having a trip to Jaipur, India, to see how they were made she decided to expand into making her own fabric for lampshades. Her passion and love for block printing allows her to bring bold, bright and beautiful colours into her home and other peoples.
She feels very lucky to be able to do what she does and make everything at home in her workroom just outside Frome. Her inspiration comes from visiting India and the vibrant colours they use. Her favourite part of starting Peas and Loves home is putting a smile on people’s faces when her products go to their new home.
Higgi is currently a guest artist with One Craft Gallery. Established in 1976, she has sold garments all over the world with orders from shops such as Harrods and from various celebrities, even royalty! Now living in Somerset, she is enjoying having a small workshop in a beautiful rural location. We have a number of her jumpers for sale, including 100% cotton roll necks, hand painted with a sardine or lobster design. We also stock her lambswool capes, which can be worn three different ways.
