One Craft Gallery are very happy to welcome Jane Hardstaff as a new member of the co-operative. Jane is a bookbinder, making a range of handmade books using traditional bookbinding techniques. These include single and multi-section notebooks with pages sewn together and cased in a hard back binding of book cloth and co-ordinating papers. A variety of stitching methods produce different results, with coptic-stitched journals which have an open spine, showcasing the stitching, and stab-bound albums using traditional Japanese sewing techniques to form a decorative finish. Larger photo albums are constructed in the traditional way with compensation guards so that pages can be used for photos or scrap-booking without causing the album to bulge.
Jane is keen to make use of recycled and re-used materials. Books in her recycled range are made from handmade bookboard created by laminating together layers of waste cardboard into sturdy board. Many of her designs use a patchwork of papers to ensure even the smallest pieces are used up.
