Phil Davis is One Craft’s resident wood turner and has been working with wood now for many years.
Phil’s philosophy is to follow the nature or character of each piece of timber as he comes to it and that there should be minimal impact upon the environment. So far between 95 – 995 of all of Phil’s timber has come from storm damage or trees that were being cleared with the odd bit of foreign timber from salvaged offcuts.
Working with wood to create beautiful bowls, vessels and decorative items requires a lot of equipment and machinery so here is a selection of the tools and equipment that Phil uses and has used over the years to create his work. Phil uses a lathe to turn his wood and the images below show various pieces of wood work-in-progress.
Phil is also a member of the Martock and District wood turning group www.madturners.co.uk and attends the annual Stock Gaylard Oak Festival in Dorset which takes place over the August bank holiday weekend. More information can be found on their website www.stockgaylard.com
