Helen Thompson is a mixed media artist and one of the gallery’s longstanding members, here is a little bit of info from Helen about her work and the new workshops she’ll be running this autumn:
I work in a variety of mediums and with a large range of materials, recycled, whenever possible. Lately, I have been doing more abstract work with mark making and layering and have rediscovered the beauty of black and white. There are examples of both in an A4 format in the gallery – mounted ready to go into frames. The colourful abstract landscapes pictured are A1 (23.4 x 33.1 inches). I also still really enjoy telling a story with my mixed media collage works. I shall be running courses with my mixed media artist friend, Dawn Porter, who has opened up a gallery and tearooms (Custard Pudding) next door. She has a workshop in the basement and we are starting with a day course on November 1st. It will be on making your own collaged Christmas cards. By the end of the day, everybody should be going home with a set of personalised cards in a variety of sizes. If interested, please contact me through my blog – hmtmixedmedia.blogspot.co.uk.
